Greetings!
My name is Stephen Day, and I am the rector of Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Billings, Montana. I have the honor of helping to lead
Junior Middler Camp at Camp Marshall this summer. This camp is designed for people entering third through eighth grades and will be run from June 26 to July 1, 2022.
It is quite exciting for me to be serving as a priest at camp, because I became a priest as a result of camp! I grew up attending an Episcopal church camp back in West Virginia. Then I worked three summers as a camp counselor. Now, about twenty years later, I will be serving as a priest for the week at camp.
As a counselor and later as a program director my favorite weeks of camp were always what we called Junior and Intermediate Camps, which are basically the same as Junior Middler Camp. I loved those weeks because they were an exciting opportunity to share a love for God and the Church with young people. Campers in this age group are open to new ideas and new ways of understanding God. Also, those were just fun weeks!
This summer I am really excited that I will be working with a wonderful partner, Joan Yetter.
Joan is a semi-retired priest who has a passion for camp and young people that rivals my own. She helped get me to Saint Stephen’s, so I am returning the favor and getting her to camp this summer. I am also enthusiastic about the theme for this summer which is centered around our Baptismal Covenant, but more on that soon.
If you have any questions about camp in general or Junior Middler Camp, in particular, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at stephend79@gmail.com. It’s going to be a great summer at Camp Marshall!
Camper Beds: As of March 4, 2022, Junior Middler Camp is filling fast. Currently we have 19 campers registered with 14 beds open for boys and 17 beds open for girls.
Accessing financial support: Due to a generous gift, this summer there is a Ministry Growth Fund: These funds are available through local Episcopal Churches in the Diocese of Montana to help cover the cost of camp. These funds can be accessed ONLY through local Episcopal congregations. Through the fund, you can attend camp for $100.00 for the week. These funds are limited and available on a first come/first serve basis.
