Enhancements Made Possible by Generous Gift from Joann Nelson Benefit All at Camp Marshall

Updated: May 9, 2023

Camp Marshall is thrilled to announce that, thanks to a generous gift of $36,000 from longtime supporters Joann and Chris Nelson, significant improvements have been made to enhance the experience of guests at the camp.

Intentional Gift from Joann Nelson

Joann and Chris had invested and grown this fund over the decades as an intentional gift for Camp Marshall. Although Joann's passing was a loss to us all, her generosity has allowed us to make essential improvements to the camp that will benefit all who visit. Her passion for the camp was evident in the premeditated gift she gave, and we are grateful for her love and support.

Canterbury Cabin Upgrades

The first improvement made was to Canterbury Cabin, where $6,000 of the funds from Joann were used to purchase new beds. The old bunk beds were replaced with a total of eleven extra-long twin mattresses and an additional queen mattress. Guests who have stayed in the cabin this spring have already enjoyed the new beds, and volunteers painted the downstairs bedrooms and bathrooms, making them even more welcoming. The creative quilters from the women's quilting retreat, have been hard at work making Canterbury even more inviting. Each bed in the cabin now has its quilt, and during a recent quilters' weekend, the group generated seven quilt tops that will be quilted by Geri Campbell and placed on beds as they are created.

St. Richards Cabin Renovations

The team at Camp Marshall has also been busy renovating St. Richards Cabin, funded by a different source. The cabin now features a "mini-split" heater and air conditioner, making it comfortable for three seasons. The goal is to have eight bunks (16 beds) moved into this facility, making it a welcome cabin for our summer program and other user groups who utilize the camp. Volunteers have been working hard to make this a reality.

Summer Program Availability

Camp Marshall is pleased to remind everyone that there is still a great deal of availability to register for all of the summer programs. Thanks to another donation, two resources are available to help make camps affordable. The Ministry Growth Fund, currently a balance of approximately $48,000, makes it possible for a youth or family to attend a week of camp for only $100. Also, scholarship support is available (approximately $30,000) to help anyone who needs financial assistance to pay for camp. The goal is to ensure that no one is turned away for financial reasons. Mission to Provide a Place for All

The improvements made to the camp will make it even more comfortable and enjoyable for guests, and the team looks forward to welcoming them soon. Camp Marshall's mission is to provide a place where people of all ages can experience God's love in nature, and these enhancements align with that mission. Thank you for your continued support of Camp Marshall.
