Position Status: Seasonal Full Time Employee
Salary Range: $450 – $550 DOE

Dates of Employment: June 10 – August 18, 2024 (on site)

Job Description:

The camp nurse or EMT is a licensed physician, registered nurse, emergency medical technician, or paramedic who is responsible to supervise health care when camp is in session, and who creates and updates a written health care plan for use at camp. This person will train program staff to identify their roles in camp health care and will oversee the camp health house during each camp session.


Planning & Preparation:
1. Become familiar with the goals and objectives of Camp Marshall, the Camp Commission and program design. * This can be found on the website and in conversations with the Executive Director.
2. Become familiar with American Camp Association (ACA) standards as they pertain to the Standing Orders for Camp Marshall and the Health Care Protocells.
3. Become familiar with the summer program weeks and program design. Each week will be different, so it is important to understand the programs and the schedule well before arriving at camp.

Staff Training
4. Successful completion of staff training: Which includes being certified in First Aid/CPR, AED card
5. Inventory: Become familiar with inventory in the Health House. Also, inventory first aid kits located in and around camp. This includes first aid kits in; the Camp Kitchen, Camp Truck, Waterfront, trip first aid kit and first aid kits giving to counselors.
6. Order Supplies: Coordinate the purchase of needed supplies via a town run to Walmart or online via Amazon.
7. Inventory skills of other staff: Spend time with all of the staff and learn what “arts and crafts” skills the have. It is quite possible there will be others on staff who have the skills to lead an activity and be a leader.
8. Training Peers: During the second week of staff training teach counseling/program staff what you will
be doing at Arts and Crafts with an eye towards how staff are to work in the area during program delivery to include, but not limited to: Cultivating conversations with campers around artistic expression, supporting the classroom environment, feedback to campers as they are working, how to clean up the class space at the end of every session.

Specific Responsibilities during program weeks:
1) Responsible to keep a written health care plan for camp, including guidelines in the following areas:
a) General routines for camp health care, sanitation, and medical record keeping
b) Provision of medical supplies and equipment
c) Become familiar with COVID protocols including; prevention, response to a potential exposure
including testing, quarantine and contacting families if there has been an exposure.
d) Relationships and agreements with medical personnel, hospitals, and providers of emergency
medical care
e) Outlining responsibilities of staff and camp health manager in providing health care
2) Ensures that each camper has signed permission from parent/guardian to seek medical treatment and communicates with community emergency services as is necessary.
3) Ensures that each camper has a record of their COVID vaccination (unless under the age of five or have a medical exemption) on record on the camp.
4) Serves as a designated health care manager who is on-site when campers are present, and who supervises daily medical care including supervising any camper who is placed in the infirmary.
5) Will have standing orders approved in writing by a licensed physician which includes procedures for dealing with common illnesses or injuries, and procedures for health screening and COVID 19 protocols.
6) Provides training to program staff in identifying their roles in camp health care, identifying situations which should be attended to only by certified health personnel, and procedures to be followed when dealing with medical waste.
7) Keeps daily camp health log and oversees accident reports when professional medical treatment is necessary,
8) Serve as the primary contact person with Parent(s)/Guardians regarding health decisions made at camp.
9) Other duties as assigned by the Camp Director or Program Director.

Minimum Skills:

1) At least 21 years of age and is a licensed physician, physician’s assistant, RN, EMT, or paramedic.

2) Has experience working with children.

3) Willing and able to live within a close camp community.

4) Willing to offer health-care related trainings to camp staff.

5)  Ability to plan, carry out, and evaluate health care plans and systems.

6)  Willingness to support the mission and ministry of Camp Marshall.

2. Manage time and prioritize goals without regular supervision.


1. The person hired for this position must be able to:

     a. Physically walk around the 27-acre site of Camp Marshall. Physical aspects of the job include the           ability to hear, see, and respond to emergencies as they arise on the camp site.

2. Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering camp programs in a rustic                      

     facility, work with daily exposure to varying weather conditions. 

3. Willingness to participate in Day Camps remotely via zoom meetings, that are held in different parts      of the Dioceses of Montana.


4. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather      conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
