JOB TITLE: Facilities Volunteer DEPARTMENT: Camp Marshall

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Executive Director

POSITION STATUS: Seasonal Volunteer


MISSION OF CAMP MARSHALL:

Camp Marshall is a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Montana. Reflecting the basic principles of the Christian Faith, Camp Marshall provides quality programs and facilities that promote positive character development. All people in the employ of the camp are expected to be familiar with and supportive of the basic polity and practice of The Episcopal Church. Further employment privileges and responsibilities are found in the policy and procedures manual provided to each employee.


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Facilities Volunteer helps with the facility, grounds and physical operations of Camp Marshall which includes participating as a member of the summer program team, maintaining building & structures; keeping all buildings and structures clean and ready for user groups, maintaining camp watercraft; maintaining camp equipment, tools & vehicle(s); Also, performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director. (depending on the skills of the volunteer).


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

✦ General: To assist with camp maintenance and care that coincide with skills and or gifts of the volunteer.


Works with the Executive Director on


Property/Facilities:


Assist with projects that fit within the skills and abilities that come with the volunteer.

Normal maintenance / skill areas around camp include / but are not limited to.

In all aspects of volunteering, it is important to keep the work environment safe and to operate equipment with safety features. Work that requires ladders may also require review of OSHA safety rules before climbing and or taking on a project.

To complete work around camp we need volunteers to help in all areas of general maintenance. Much of the work to keeping the grounds clean and ready for use may not require anything more than a rake and wheel barrel.

A more experience builder / skilled carpenter is welcome to tackle more complex projects.



Basic areas that need attention include, but are not limited to:

· Lawn care –

o Camp owns a riding mower, push mower and a number of weed eaters.

o Landscaping / Gardening

· Buildings

o Doors / Locks

o Skills are needed to maintain locks and doors to keep them in good repair during the year.

o Windows/Window Screens/Openers/closures

o Deck Repair

o Exterior Paint – on all cabins/buildings

o Interior Paint – all cabins and buildings shower houses

· Walls and Floors

o Camp has a variety of buildings with walls and floors that generally need light maintenance and care to keep them in good condition.

· Projects that fall outside of your skills – electrical or plumbing should be done only by a licensed professional.


If a volunteer wishes to burn pine needles / wood that is rubbish they may only do so following local regulations and in consultation with the Executive Director


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL(S):

✦ Knowledge:

1. In the areas of engineering, painting, carpentry, electrical wiring and controls, plumbing, water and sewage treatment, vehicle and machinery operation including maintenance.

2. In the proper techniques in the following area: construction, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and ground keeping.

✦ Skill(s):

3. Proficiency in the safe and proper use of power equipment and tools, heavy and light machinery, and building materials.

4. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the operation of the Camp.

5. Ability to manage time and prioritize goals.

6. Ability to work independently without regular supervision.

7. Ability to accept constructive feedback, coaching, guidance, and direction.

8. Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.

9. Interacts professionally with all with whom contact is made.

10. Works effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS:

✦ Required:

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Be over the age of 21.

· Serve Safe Food Managers Card. (Only if working in the kitchen area)

· Certification in first aid and CPR / recommended.

· Undergo a criminal and sex offender background check.

· Current training in all Safeguarding training material or must complete and certify within three months of volunteering and maintain up-to-date knowledge in safeguarding and certification.


ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

✦ Demands: Depending on the project(s) the volunteer is taking on it is important to recognize physical demands of the project and not to volunteer to do work that is beyond your abilities.


WORK ENVIRONMENT
